The DLSS takes great pride in the competitions we run. There are preliminary heats held at the Waterfront Campus, and the finalists from these rounds compete against Deakin Burwood at one of our sponsor firms.
Taking part in competitions is a great way to improve your legal problem solving skills, your written language, and your oral presentation abilities. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and create relationships with your fellow students, your lecturers, and even lawyers at sponsor firms – so what are you waiting for? There are competitions that cater for all levels of skill and experience – from our First Year Negotiation rounds to the Senior Moot and Witness Examination showdowns.
You can read all about the different competitions by reading our definitive DLSS Geelong Competitions Guide, and learn more about the finer points of competing by checking out our YouTube tutorials!
Competitions Outline for 2018
- Deakin Moot
- Junior Moot
- First year Negotiation (held at the Waterfront campus)
Though the competition dates can sometimes change unexpectedly throughout the year (due to the availability of venues and other faculty events) the societies of Burwood and Geelong always endeavour to stick by this schedule. If you have any questions about the date of a competition final or heat, we encourage you to contact our Vice President of Competitions, Tanner Redden.
Note on Competitions Cancellation Requirements
Teams must notify the Competitions Portfolio of the team’s unavailability to participate on the scheduled time, as soon as possible but not later than 24 hours before their scheduled competing times. Failure to give 24 hour notice for withdrawal from any competition, without a reasonable excuse, may result in automatic and immediate disqualification from all competitions for that trimester.
